Shake shingle siding is a popular accent choice for homes throughout Minnesota. It is most often installed on gables, dormers, and upper wall sections to add texture and break up large areas of siding. The look is inspired by traditional cedar shingles, but modern fiber cement options provide greater durability and far less maintenance.

One of the reasons we use James Hardie shake siding is the variety of panel styles and exposures available. Staggered edge panels typically measure 48 inches long and about 15 1/4 inches high with a 7-inch exposure, creating a more traditional cedar shake appearance with deeper shadow lines. Straight edge panels are also 48 inches long and come in about a 5-inch or 7-inch exposure, offering a more uniform and clean look. Half-round shingle panels measure roughly 15 1/4 inches high with a 7-inch exposure and are often used for distinctive architectural accents on gables.

James Hardie shake siding is available in smooth or cedarmill (woodgrain) texture and in all ColorPlus factory finishes. We commonly install shake siding on homes throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul, where homeowners want added detail and character without the maintenance concerns that come with real cedar shingles.
