Project Overview

This Lakeville home underwent a major exterior transformation that included complete removal of the existing stucco, installation of James Hardie siding, and replacement of the home’s windows with Marvin windows.  Rather than trying to replicate the look of the original stucco, the homeowners chose a new exterior design using James Hardie lap siding in Khaki Brown, with Khaki Brown shingle siding in the gables and Arctic White trim. The home’s existing brick was retained, giving us an architectural element to design around and creating a natural contrast with the new siding.

Before: The original stucco exterior and windows before the Lakeville remodeling project began.

Removing the stucco allowed the exterior to be completely reworked with James Hardie fiber cement siding. Khaki Brown lap siding became the primary exterior material, while matching Hardie shingle siding was used in the gables to add texture and distinguish those architectural areas.

Arctic White trim provides definition between the lap siding and shingle accents and ties into the home’s white window frames, soffit and fascia. The combination works especially well with the existing brick, which remained an important part of the home’s exterior design.

The siding project was completed alongside replacement of the home’s windows with new Marvin windows. Coordinating the window and siding replacement allowed the exterior details around the new windows to be addressed as part of the overall project rather than as separate remodeling projects.

The new white window frames also became part of the exterior color palette, providing contrast against the Khaki Brown siding and coordinating with the Arctic White trim.

The before-and-after photos show how dramatically the siding and window replacement changed this home without changing the architectural character that made it distinctive.

The original stucco was replaced with a combination of James Hardie lap and shingle siding, while the existing brick was preserved. New Marvin windows and Arctic White exterior details complete a cohesive exterior that looks intentionally designed around the home’s existing architecture.
