Project Overview
This Lakeville home gave us an opportunity to coordinate siding, windows and architectural trim as one complete exterior design. The homeowners selected James Hardie lap siding in Mountain Sage, a muted green that works especially well with the home’s traditional architecture, existing brick and warm roof color. Arctic White James Hardie trim provides contrast and highlights the architectural details throughout the exterior.

One of the most distinctive features of this project is the trim package. Rather than using standard flat trim around every opening, we incorporated crown moulding above the windows to give them more definition and reinforce the traditional character of the home. Along the roofline, a decorative frieze board creates a finished transition between the siding and soffit while complementing the existing architectural details.

The exterior package also included James Hardie soffit and fascia. Using Hardie products beyond the siding allowed the primary exterior components to be addressed together and gave the roofline a clean, consistent appearance. Arctic White was carried through the trim, soffit and fascia, creating a strong contrast with the Mountain Sage siding.

The home’s existing brick was retained and incorporated into the new exterior rather than covered or removed. Its red and brown tones provide a natural complement to Mountain Sage and help preserve some of the original character of the house.
New Marvin Elevate fiberglass windows were installed as part of the project as well. Coordinating the window replacement with the siding work allowed the exterior window details to be integrated into the new Hardie trim package. Marvin Elevate windows use a durable fiberglass exterior with a real wood interior, combining the exterior performance homeowners look for in a fiberglass window with the appearance of wood inside the home.

The finished exterior demonstrates how relatively subtle design decisions can make a significant difference. Mountain Sage provides the primary color, but the Arctic White crown moulding, frieze board, window trim, soffit and fascia give the home much of its architectural definition. Combined with the existing brick and new Marvin fiberglass windows, the result is an exterior that feels updated without losing the traditional character of the home.
