Project Overview

The original exterior of this Eden Prairie home felt dated and flat, with aging siding and a front porch that didn’t reflect the scale or character of the house. The entryway lacked depth, and the existing materials were beginning to show wear from years of exposure to Minnesota’s climate.

After evaluating the home, our team designed a comprehensive exterior solution centered around long-term performance and architectural enhancement. James Hardie fiber cement siding was selected for its resistance to moisture, temperature extremes, and pests, while new windows improved energy efficiency and overall comfort.

A major focal point of the project was the front porch. We rebuilt the porch structure and installed TimberTech composite decking, chosen for its durability, slip resistance, and low-maintenance performance. The warm decking tone adds contrast against the stone and siding while eliminating the upkeep demands of traditional wood.

To elevate the entry, Craftsman’s Choice designed and constructed a custom arched porch entryway, creating a bold architectural statement. The arched detail adds depth and refinement, while the beadboard ceiling and trim details complete the look with a polished, welcoming finish.

The completed project delivers a striking before-and-after transformation. The home now features a cohesive exterior design that feels intentional, timeless, and built to perform in Minnesota’s challenging climate.

Decking FAQs

Is TimberTech decking a good choice for Minnesota weather?

Yes. TimberTech decking is engineered to perform in extreme climates and holds up exceptionally well through Minnesota’s temperature swings, snow loads, and freeze-thaw cycles. It resists moisture absorption, cracking, and warping better than traditional wood decking.

How does TimberTech compare to wood decking?

TimberTech offers the appearance of real wood without the ongoing maintenance. Unlike wood decking, it won’t rot, splinter, or require regular staining or sealing, resulting in lower long-term maintenance costs.

Is TimberTech decking slippery when wet or icy?

TimberTech decking is designed with slip-resistant surfaces that provide improved traction compared to many traditional wood decks, making it a smart choice for front porches and entryways exposed to rain and snow.

Can TimberTech decking be used on front porches?

Absolutely. TimberTech is commonly used on front porches because it provides a refined, architectural appearance while standing up to heavy foot traffic and constant exposure to the elements.

How long does TimberTech decking last?

TimberTech decking is designed to last for decades and is backed by strong manufacturer warranties. When properly installed, it significantly outperforms traditional wood decking in both longevity and appearance retention.
