There is plenty of different fiberglasses, aluminum, and vinyl windows to choose from, but which is the best for your home? As a homeowner, it’s important to understand the difference between all three material choices. You always need to make the most informed choice for your home, after all. Learn about all three types of windows below!

Fiberglass Windows

Fiberglass windows are the second most popular window choice, right behind the vinyl. They are a bit more expensive than vinyl, which is the reason that they are slightly less popular. Overall, though, the cost is worth it. These are an improvement on vinyl windows in every way.

Fiberglass windows are made by layering sheets of fiberglass together and laminating them. They are very strong, light, and thin. This gives them a low profile when installed in your home but still allows them to insulate very well. Because the material is so strong, fiberglass windows are known for lasting a very long time.

Aesthetically, fiberglass windows look great. Many can be made to resemble wood windows, which is very desirable. Additionally, they can be painted quite easily, which is a huge plus for DIY enthusiasts!

Aluminum Windows

Aluminum windows are rising in popularity among homeowners. This is because they look great, and are light and strong. They’re much stronger than fiberglass windows and can hold huge panes of glass with ease.

Now, it needs to be mentioned that while these windows are very strong, they are terrible insulators on their own.  When comparing fiberglass, aluminum, and vinyl windows, aluminum is the worst at insulating. Thankfully, they can be paired with other materials to improve this quality.

Aluminum windows can be painted, and because of the material, finishes will last for years. However, they look pretty great on their own. When buying aluminum windows, you can expect to pay about as much as you would for fiberglass.

Vinyl Windows

If you’re considering vinyl windows, you’re not alone. When comparing fiberglass, aluminum, and vinyl windows, you’ll find that vinyl windows are typically the least expensive option. This makes them a very popular choice. These windows are less expensive than the others because vinyl is a type of plastic, which makes manufacturing it quick.

Now, when it comes to styles, vinyl windows tend to be a bit more limited unless you’re willing to pay a little bit more. They normally come in white or tan, but many other colors are available, as well.

When it comes to the quality of the window itself, vinyl can be considered the middle of the road. This is because they are alright at insulating your home, and they are very low maintenance. It should be noted, though, that over time vinyl windows will fade with sun exposure. They can be painted, but it isn’t ideal. This can be a limiting factor and a deal-breaker for some homeowners.

Which is the Best?

It comes down to personal preference. All three are excellent options, depending on the circumstances! You should decide on what looks best with your home since it will increase curb appeal and home value.
