This renovation began with the removal of the dated cedar siding. James Hardie Arctic White lap siding was installed on the body of the home. The crispness of Arctic White instantly brightened up the exterior. Board and batten siding in James Hardie Arctic White was installed on the gable ends to add interest and a sense of height. The board and batten look is completed by installing sheets of James Hardie siding first and then installing 1×2 trim boards or “battens” on top of the sheets. The battens usually are installed over the studs to hide any nails that are in the sheets. James Hardie Arctic White trim completes the crisp and clean new exterior.
Perhaps the most charming aspect of this renovation tale was the addition of a new portico entry. The gabled portico adds dimension and height to the façade of the home. From a practical standpoint, the portico offers shelter from the elements at the front entrance. The soffit was finished in cedar v-groove for a sense of warmth and charm.
