James Hardie Monterey Taupe was the color selected by these Edina MN homeowners to get rid of the dated blue steel siding that had sustained hail damage from a recent storm. As they considered their options for replacement siding, James Hardie fiber cement siding shot to the top of the list for it’s durability and design flexibility. When considering color, James Hardie Monterey Taupe was the final selection as it meshed well with the existing stone work that was not being replaced in this remodeling project.
They also decided to upgrade their 40 year old windows along with the siding project. Window replacement and siding replacement go hand in hand. If you can swing it financially, it is the best way to replace your windows. By installing the new Marvin replacement windows with the siding off, we are able to install all of the tapes and flashings that the manufacturer recommends for proper building practices. They chose Marvin Signature series windows to retain the style and design of the current windows but with a maintenance free exterior and high performance glass.
We also replaced the roof with GAF Timberline HD architectural shingles in Pewter Gray. Just like window replacement projects, replacing your shingles along with a siding replacement project makes a lot of sense. We are able to integrate the flashing and run additional layers of protections at roof-wall intersections.
The straight shingles used on this project in James Hardie Monterey Taupe, gave the home a new look that will still fit in their 1950’s Edina neighborhood. By adding the custom made black shutters, the white windows pop a little more with that contrast.
